
Thomas Dohmke
Thomas Dohmke is the Chief Executive Officer of GitHub, where he leads the platform's transformation into a developer-first, AI-powered ecosystem. He has overseen groundbreaking developments like GitHub Copilot, making coding more accessible and intelligent.
A German-born technologist, Dohmke studied computer engineering at Technische Universität Berlin and earned a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Early in his career, he worked in automotive software and co-founded HockeyApp, which Microsoft acquired in 2014.
He joined GitHub following its 2018 Microsoft acquisition and became CEO in November 2021, succeeding Nat Friedman. Under his leadership, GitHub’s global developer base doubled to over 150 million users, and the platform became deeply integrated into AI-driven tools.
In August 2025, Dohmke announced he will step down as CEO by year-end to return to founding another startup, staying on through the end of 2025 to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
