JoAnn Stonier is a globally recognized expert in data, artificial intelligence, and privacy, with a distinguished career at Mastercard where she served as the company’s first Chief Data Officer. 

In this role, she led enterprise-wide data strategy, governance, and innovation, enabling the organization to unlock the value of its data assets while managing evolving data risks.

Prior to this, she served as Chief Information Governance & Privacy Officer at Mastercard, overseeing global privacy programs and regulatory engagement.

Earlier in her career, JoAnn held senior leadership roles at American Express, as well as positions at PepsiCo and PricewaterhouseCoopers, building deep expertise across finance, law, and technology.

A recognized thought leader, she has advised governments, global organizations, and industry leaders on data governance, AI ethics, and digital policy. She serves on international initiatives including the United Nations Expert Group on AI governance and the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Data Policy.

JoAnn is also an adjunct professor, sharing her expertise in business strategy, data, and privacy, and is widely regarded for her work in advancing responsible data practices and ethical AI adoption.

With a career spanning law, finance, and technology, she continues to shape how organizations leverage data responsibly to drive innovation and long-term value.
